About Edi's Book Lighthouse

The Name of the blog
I know a blog name should be significant and unique.
A lighthouse with a turning light is a symbol for my point of view of the ocean of books and the abyss of blogs. A lighthouse spotlights a part of the ocean like I spotlight a book.
I like especially fantasy. But I also like the freedom to delve into books beyond fantasy. I tried to express that by using the subtitle "spotlights fantasy, sci-fi and more...

The Form
Beside a name I needed a layout. To create an own layout needs time and knowledge. I wanted to be online again as soon as possible. So I searched for a free template. When I saw Night Sky for the first time I fell immediately in love with it :) There was no way out. I must use it. Even I know there are similar blogs...... It worked fine until I tested it in detail. Post options did not work proper. As I'm not familiar with CSS I read and tried a lot. But I did not find a proper solution.
Therefore I had to delete the template. I chose a predefined blogger template and "played" around with colours.

In the meantime I got a new header done by Shellie Nunn - for details look at main page.

Everyone who runs a blog knows that you can pimp your blog with tons of gadgets.
You will recognize that I started with few gadgets.

The Content
As I Iike to categorize my posts I created several post classifications:
- Edi's Weekend Wave = a weekly roundup
- Edi's Spotlight = review
- Edi's Ediment = something between comment and review (max 350 words
- Edi's Lighthouse Talk = interview
- Edi's Lighthouse Chatter = rumors, announcements, discussions, worth to mention
- Edi's Lighthouse Cellar = shelf discoveries
- Edi's Lighthouse Ledger = Books read, Books to read, .....
- Edi's DNF = Did Not Finish
And more to come.....

The Style
I'm German (drafts, schedules, details), I share my my mind with four other personalities, I "survived" half a century, sometimes meshuga but not grumpy and I snore when I sleep, I love quotes and cheese cake, I hate to be late.
Conclusion: Quirky posts

The "Principles"
Following five quotes reflect the principles of this blog:

"When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes."
Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus

"The shortest distance between two points is always under construction."
Rebecca McClanahan

"Books to the ceiling,
Books to the sky,
My pile of books is a mile high.
How I love them! How I need them!
I'll have a long beard by the time I read them."
Arnold Lobel

"Still round the corner there may wait,
A new road or a secret gate."
J. R. R. Tolkien, British scholar & fantasy novelist (1892 - 1973)

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
J. R. R. Tolkien, LotR, British scholar & fantasy novelist (1892 - 1973)

Post Frequency and Post Dates
As a reader of blogs I appreciate when blogs post frequently which means something between one to seven posts per week. And I like it when there are "fixed" for specific topics - e.g. a giveaway day, a review day.

Edi's Weekend Wave day will be Saturday.
Edi's Spotlight and Edi's Ediment will be posted on Wednesdays and if necessary on Sundays.
All other posts will be posted when available.

Review Information
Concerning book reviews, I'm willing to receive copies for review in paper and digital. I prefer the ePUB fromat for electronic copies.
Due to the constraints of time, particularly reading and reviewing time, I cannot promise when or if I may get to the work in question.
In case I'm interested in to read and review your book I will come back to you. If you do not receive a mail from me then I do not want to read and review your book.

Book Links
I don't  add any book links to book shops like Amazon except I bought or got Amazon Kindle digital books.
For all other books I provide you with the ISBN-10 and/or ISBN-13. With the ISBN you can easily find the book at your preferred book shop. Whenever necessary I will add a link to the publisher.

Rating System
I know a lot of people like rating systems and I don't like them.
I describe the pros and cons and give a recommendation.
